Description: Suzie is an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship, as together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed. Why Was It Cancelled? This is yet another show that arrived on Apple TV+ with little in the way of promotion and it did not draw much of an audience. It did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings during its first season run, and as of its cancellation, TelevisionStats.com shows it as only the 25th most popular show on that streaming service. Apple TV+ had been good about supporting it originals, but the post-Peak TV crunch has been taking its toll and the streamer has been going through some cost cutting (as have all of the television venues) leaving Sunny as yet another one-and-done original series. There were plans for the show to continue to a second season, so it is possible that it could get shopped around, but there has been no confirmation on that.
