Description: Syfy’s one-hour drama series Haven, starring Emily Rose is based on the novella The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. The series follows the shrewd and confident FBI agent Audrey Parker (Rose) as she arrives in the small town of Haven, Maine on a routine case. Before long, her natural curiosity lands her in the epicenter of activity in this curious enclave, which turns out to be a longtime refuge for people that are affected by a range of supernatural afflictions. The truth about Audrey’s mysterious past (which she can’t fully remember) starts to come out as well.  As the townspeople’s dormant abilities begin to express themselves, Audrey helps keep these forces at bay while discovering the many secrets of Haven — including one surrounding her own surprising connections to this extraordinary place. Why Was It Cancelled? The cancellation announcement for this show did not come as a huge surprise because of its declining ratings and the fact that it was the last series hanging on from the early Syfy rebranding days. With all the development that the network currently has in the pipeline, apparently they decided not to funnel anymore to this show which was part of an era they are currently trying to step away from.  Series showrunner Gabrielle Stanton did promise that the last thirteen episodes (which will begin airing on October 8th) will provide a satisfying resolution for the fans, though they also left it open-ended for a possible continuation:

We approached as if it was going to be our final season, so we were ready for it story-wise. But you never know. If a million people watch, maybe we can do something about that… But we had an idea that it might be [the final season]. I’m sure as a fellow TV fan, there’s nothing more annoying than when a show kind of feels like it might be wrapping up, but they just don’t address it, they don’t come to any kind of satisfying conclusion. I always think that’s cheating the audience a little bit, of a nice satisfying ending. So we really looked at these 13 episodes as if… If we were indeed going to end, what would be the best ending we could possibly do for Haven? (You can read the full interview with Stanton at this link.)

When the show’s fifth season concludes, it will have 78 episodes which is a decent number for a syndication run, but another season or so would make it even more attractive in that market.  Since Haven does have a very vocal fanbase, they will almost certainly mount an effort to keep the show alive.
