Description: Dominion is an epic supernatural drama set in the near future. Specifically, 25 years after “The Extinction War,” when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, waged war against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, chose to side with humanity. Rising out of the ashes of this long battle are newly fortified cities which protect human survivors. At the center of the series is the city of Vega, a glistening empire that has formed from the ruins of what was once Las Vegas. Syfy.com

Why Was It Cancelled? This series was likely a victim of economics.  Syfy’s numbers have been down lately, though this show actually performed better in its second season than Summer entries Dark Matter and Killjoys and Spring series 12 Monkeys.  But then those first two shows have a partnership deal with the Canadian Space Channel and the last one is probably a less costly entry.  Dominion was likely on the more expensive side for Syfy and the network apparently did not have enough international financing and/or partnerships to help defer costs.  These intangibles make it hard to make accurate predictions on the cable shows, especially the lower performing “ratings noise” entries.  Partnerships/financing helps keep some shows alive but is insufficient or non-existent for others.  Series star Anthony Head did have some comments on the cancellation and claimed that Syfy had a “policy of not doing publicity in the second year, but relying on word of mouth and social media”.  He felt that hurt the show and also that pairing it with WWF “might have been  a bit of a punt”.  Of course Dominion has a very vocal and dedicated fanbase, so I expect an immediate uproar and an attempt to try and get another network or one of the streaming services to pick up the show.  We haven’t seen much success with that of late, but it never hurts to try.
