Coming as no surprise, the Prime Video superhero series The Boys, based on the comic book of the same name, has been renewed for a third season by Amazon. Executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg made the announcement during the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel (which is available for streaming at this link). It is not uncommon for shows to make renewal announcements at Comic-Con, and there were already rumors floating around that Amazon planned on continuing the show into a third season. The show proved quite popular in its first season and I was expecting the announcement today. The streamer also often announces renewals ahead of the upcoming season premiere (Season 2 bows on September 4th). Rogen made the comment that he did not know when they would be able to start filming the next season in the current shutdown environment, but several shows have already resumed production. The panel also included an exclusive clip from the upcoming second season which can be viewed at the link above.
The Boys follows a group of vigilantes who try to stop and expose superheroes who have been abusing their powers. It stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, and Dominique McElligott and is based on the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic of the same name.
There could be more renewal announcements coming during the upcoming Comic-Con@Home panels and we are still waiting for word on shows like Netflix’s Altered Carbon, AMC’s Dispatches from Elsewhere, and Freeform’s Siren.
