In yet another blow to the Marvel TV of old, Hulu has cancelled plans for the animated series Howard the Duck and Tigra and Dazzler. Those two would have been aimed at a more adult audience and were part of a larger block that would include Hit Monkey and M.O.D.O.K. Those latter two are still moving forward at this time, but the planned team-up series The Offenders will likely not happen. However, at this point, there is no guarantee that any of these will actually make it to the small screen. All of the shows produced by the old Marvel TV under Jeph Loeb have ended (Agents of SHIELD airs its seventh and final season later this year and production has already wrapped), and the planned live-action Ghost Rider series has been scrapped.
After the recent shake-up that saw Kevin Fiege take over the television production side, most of the projects started under Loeb were dropped with the exception of the planned adult animated shows and the live-action Helstrom series. But Tigra and Dazzler ran into behind-the-scenes problems when its showrunner bowed out, and now plans for that and Howard the Duck have been cancelled. Word is the production has begun on M.O.D.O.K., but don’t be surprised if that and Hit Monkey–along with Helstrom–are eventually cut loose at well. Fiege appears to want a clean start with the newly-named Marvel TV Studios and does not have much interest in carrying over former projects. The She-Hulk series is still moving forward, but that was not a project started by Loeb. Also, the mini-series that will focus on characters from the MCU movies like Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Vision and Scarlet Witch are still moving forward, but those are under the Marvel Studios banner.
There are still several more shows from the 2018-19 season that are awaiting word on their fate such as The Terror, and Mars, and I expect announcements on Fall shows like Emergence and The Purge relatively soon.
