Spike announced late yesterday that their freshman series The Mist, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, will not be returning for a second season. The news does not come as a huge surprise because the show never attracted much of an audience, not did it see much in the way of delayed viewing gains or buzz on the social networks. I had thought that show might get a free pass to a second season because it is leading the scripted programming charge for its network as Spike. But as it ratings faded throughout the season, that looked less likely. That show was also part of the “old regime” at the network according to Deadline Hollywood, and the newer bosses decided not to carry it over as Spike transitions to the Paramount Network in January.
The Mist was about a mysterious cloud that descended over a small town causing a deadly panic among the residents. It starred Morgan Spector, Frances Conroy, Alyssa Sutherland, and Gus Birney.
There are quite a number of Summer shows awaiting word on their fate, so be sure to stay tuned to this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for updates and breaking news.
