Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Syfy Has Cancelled Haven (Brace for the Social Media Fallout)

Syfy announced today that the upcoming thirteen episode conclusion to Haven‘s fifth season will act as the swansong for the show.  The news does not come as a complete surprise considering the ratings dive the show experienced last Fall, though I thought they would at least see how the second half of the show’s fifth season would do before making the call.  But with all the development Syfy currently has in the pipeline, they apparently decided not to funnel anymore money to Haven which has struggled in the ratings, though it does have a very devoted and vocal fanbase and I expect them to make waves on the social media sites.  According to series showrunner Gabrielle Stanton, the last thirteen episodes will provide a satisfying resolution for the fans, though they also left it open-ended for a possible continuation:

We approached as if it was going to be our final season, so we were ready for it story-wise. But you never know. If a million people watch, maybe we can do something about that… But we had an idea that it might be [the final season]. I’m sure as a fellow TV fan, there’s nothing more annoying than when a show kind of feels like it might be wrapping up, but they just don’t address it, they don’t come to any kind of satisfying conclusion. I always think that’s cheating the audience a little bit, of a nice satisfying ending. So we really looked at these 13 episodes as if… If we were indeed going to end, what would be the best ending we could possibly do for Haven?

The final thirteen episodes of Haven will begin airing on Thursdays at 10 PM EST starting October 8th.  And sci fi legend William Shatner will be onboard in a recurring role.
