Coming as no surprise, TNT announced toady that their sophomore post-pandemic series The Last Ship will be returning for a third season. The show’s numbers are definitely down from its first year, but that’s in line with the ratings slump that all of the cable networks have been experiencing this Summer and it has been a fixture in the cable Top 25 based on total viewers each week. Just earlier today I listed it as the most likely Summer series to get renewed and I have been expecting the announcement to come at any time. It is an expensive series to produce, but it is currently one of the better rated cable series and has continued to cruise above that “ratings noise” level (0.2 to 0.4 ratings averages) that many shows have sunk to. Its third season will comprise thirteen episodes and will debut next Summer. The show is scheduled to wrap up its second season on September 6th.
